BMW R18 2025: Updated Torque, Same Iconic Power

While the BMW R18 series might not be leaving dealerships as fast as hoped, the Bavarian powerhouse isn’t holding back on refining its flagship cruiser for 2025.

At the heart of the updated range is the iconic 1,802cc boxer engine, now delivering even more torque. Thanks to ECU and mapping tweaks, the 2025 R18 boasts an extra 3.6 lb-ft at 3,000rpm, pushing peak torque to an impressive 120 lb-ft. Between 2,000 and 4,000rpm, the engine consistently delivers over 110 lb-ft, giving riders plenty of grunt for effortless cruising.

However, the headline power figure remains unchanged, with the big boxer still producing 89bhp—perfect for laid-back riding with a touch of muscle.

Bigger Wheels and Updated Styling

BMW has refined the R18 range for 2025 with updates that enhance both performance and aesthetics. One key upgrade is the new 18-inch rear wheel, replacing the outgoing 16-inch version. This change is paired with redesigned front and rear mudguards to complement the updated proportions.

For purists who favor the classic look, the 16-inch spoked rear wheel remains available through BMW’s options list.

The standard wheels have also received a makeover, featuring an eye-catching seven “double-spoke” design with a fresh contrast-cut finish. The gloss coating over the machined elements seals the shine, ensuring durability while adding a premium touch to the rims.

These updates not only modernize the R18’s styling but also enhance its road presence, making the 2025 range stand out even more.

2025 BMW R18: Enhanced Suspension, New Exhausts, and Visual Updates

The 2025 BMW R18 range delivers more than just engine tweaks—it’s built to offer a smoother, more comfortable ride. The rear suspension has been upgraded with revised spring and damping rates, perfectly tailored to the new 18-inch rear wheel. A 180/55 rear tyre is now standard, enhancing both handling and road comfort.

On the aesthetic front, BMW has introduced new circular silencers, replacing the vintage-inspired fishtail exhausts found on previous models. These updated silencers give the R18 a cleaner, more modern cruiser vibe while maintaining its signature growl.

Further refinements include redesigned side covers and a reworked fuel tank, adding fresh styling touches to the already iconic R18 silhouette. These updates ensure that the 2025 range feels fresh and contemporary while staying true to its classic roots.

One of the most striking updates to the 2025 BMW R18 range is the shift in front suspension design. The base model R18 now features a bold, naked front suspension with exposed forks, giving it a rugged and raw “Rough Look” that sets it apart from the rest of the lineup.

Meanwhile, the Classic, Roctane, R18 B, and Transcontinental retain their fork shrouds, staying true to their vintage-inspired, authentic cruiser styling. This balance of modern and classic design elements ensures that each model appeals to a distinct type of rider, whether you’re after a stripped-back cruiser or a more traditional touring vibe

Comfort Enhancements, and Tech Upgrades

The 2025 BMW R18 Classic receives several key updates to elevate its style, comfort, and practicality. A new front mudguard, borrowed from the R18 B, now complements the 19-inch spoked front wheel, which replaces the smaller 16-inch wheel found on the 2024 model. These changes give the Classic a more commanding road presence while enhancing its classic cruiser aesthetic.

Comfort sees a boost too, thanks to a new single seat with 10mm thicker foam for improved cushioning on long rides. Optional seating configurations remain available for those seeking customization.

Tech upgrades include Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) as standard in the UK, ensuring better visibility, and a USB-C charging socket, making it easier to stay connected on the go.

With these updates, the R18 Classic combines timeless styling with modern practicality, making it an excellent choice for 2025 riders.
